Roles
JPS is currently set up to include the following roles:
- Production director
- Production manager
- Production editor manager
- Production editor
- Records office
- Payment office
- Author
- Vendor
- System
Production director
The production director is responsible for maintaining and updating the system configuration files, troubleshooting manuscript import and export problems, adding new workers to JPS, and providing support to existing users. They are your main contact if you are having problems. The production director does not carry out any tasks in the current workflow.
Production manager
The production manager is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the system. The PM reviews the manuscripts that come in from the submission system and directs them into the appropriate workflows. Production manager’s tasks include:
The production manager also forms and prepares issues, a process currently done outside of JPS.
Production editor manager
Production editor manager runs the team responsible for the post-publication check process. PE manager’s tasks include:

PE manager can also assign other post-publication checkes to themselves. In that case, they assume the production editor role for the remainder of the process.
Production editor
The production editors, previously known as the PubMed team, bear the primary responsibility for guiding the paper through the post-publication check process. They identify and forward corrections to vendors, verify the implementation, and approve papers for archiving. PE’s tasks include:
Records office
The records office is responsible for obtaining the license/author agreement document from the paper’s authors. Records office tasks include:
Payment office
The payment office is responsible for the invoicing process. Payment office tasks include:
Author
The corresponding author of the manuscript takes on this role.

JPS currently supports only one corresponding author per manuscript
During the workflow, we interact with the author multiple times. Signing documents permitting us to publish the paper, paying the publication fees, reviewing manuscript proofs and answering our questions are all author’s responsibilities. Author’s tasks include:

Vendor
Vendors, occasionally referred to as the compositors or the production teams, are responsible for preparation of the author proofs, formatting and publication of the papers, implementing corrections, and archiving papers for the issue. Vendors’ tasks include:

Ye olde friendly neighborhood robot. Coordinates, tracks, imports, exports, reminds, repeats. Likes cookies, hates violations of the naming convention.
